BOXXER - Awaken The Dragon, Utilita Arena, Cardiff
The lighting and video design followed a polished broadcast-led aesthetic - balancing sporting clarity with arena spectacle for the Price vs Pineiro fight, a huge night for Welsh boxing.
The ring was lit with a clean, high-output white lighting grid to ensure consistent, shadow-free visibility for cameras, creating a strong visual contrast against a deliberately darkened audience bowl. 👁️
Lauren Price’s walkout introduced a more theatrical layer, using moving beams, saturated colour washes and backlit silhouettes to build atmosphere and crowd energy - supported by large LED screens displaying fighter graphics and motion content.
The overall video design remained functional and TV-focused, with crisp, minimal broadcast graphics and tightly controlled exposure across camera angles, resulting in a presentation that felt premium and cinematic without distracting from the fight itself. #maxconwell #nakedeyelighting

MVP – Olympia, London
Collaborating with Sky Sports Boxing and Jake Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions on the Dubois vs Harper fight at Olympia was a great experience.
The lighting and video design for MVP Fight Night was conceived as a bold, atmospheric production that balanced spectacle with the architectural challenges of the venue. 👁️
One of the defining visual elements was the treatment of the venue’s expansive white walls. These were carefully illuminated to act as a canvas - washed with clean, even light to enhance the scale of the space while also allowing for subtle colour transitions during key moments.
LED tubes integrated in the main staircase gave the fighter entrances a strong visual identity - creating a dynamic runway effect framing the boxers as they descended.
The venue’s many windows posed a significant technical and creative challenge. Natural light posed potential issues for both lighting control and video clarity, particularly during daytime segments. The design team had to carefully balance exposure - using strategic lighting levels, directional fixtures and screen brightness to maintain image integrity while preventing washout.
Overall, the design turned a complex, light-filled venue into a cohesive and immersive fight night environment. #maxconwell #nakedeyelighting

Boxxer - The World Awaits, Copper Box Arena, London
Boxxer Fight Night at the Copper Box Arena on 31 January delivered a full-throttle night of boxing wrapped in arena-scale spectacle.
Copper Box was transformed into a cauldron of noise and light, with a tightly packed crowd amplifying every walkout, every exchange and every decisive moment under the lights. From the opening bell to the final announcement, the atmosphere felt raw, modern and unmistakably Boxxer - fast-paced, TV-driven and built for drama. 👁️
A standout feature of the production was the lighting design, which played a huge role in shaping the broadcast look. Four-metre Sceptron drops descended above the ring, creating a bold vertical frame that punched straight into the camera shots. These towering light elements added depth and scale on screen, catching fighters in sharp silhouettes during entrances and accentuating key moments between rounds.
The Sceptrons weren’t just decorative - they were engineered to work with the cameras, reinforcing the intensity of the action and giving the night a distinctive, high-impact visual identity that carried seamlessly from then arena to the audience at home. #maxconwell #nakedeyelighting

BOXXER - First Direct Arena, Leeds
BOXXER’s ‘The Future Now’ headlined by Callum Simpson vs Troy Williamson took place just before Christmas - a high profile British/European title fight broadcast live and free-to-air on BBC Three and BBC iPlayer.
The lighting design focused on clean broadcast readability, brand reinforcement and dramatic separation between fight moments and walk-ins. 👁️
Truss mounted GLP X4 Bars were positioned evenly around the ring perimeter, angled precisely to downlight the branded ringside carpet. These beams created a crisp shaft of light that framed the ring without spill into the audience, ensuring BOXXER logos remained camera-sharp throughout the broadcast. The fixtures were programmed with subtle intensity modulation rather than colour changes, maintaining a premium, boxing specific aesthetic.
Complementing Hybrid floor beams integrated at head height either side of the ring walk entrance played into the cameras. These fixtures project tight, high-intensity beams horizontally across the entrance corridor, sitting just above performer eye line. This placement allows the beams to cut cleanly through haze, forming a luminous tunnel that frames the talent as they enter. Because the beams are aligned laterally, they register strongly in side-angle and three quarter camera shots, producing defined shafts of light that add depth and scale without obscuring faces. #maxconwell #nakedeyelighting

Richard Hawley - Coles Corner, Sheffield City Hall
Across three sold-out nights, Richard Hawley marked 20 years of Coles Corner with deeply felt performances rooted in nostalgia and hometown pride.
The lighting and video scheme reinforces the nostalgia, intimacy and personal connection at the heart of Coles Corner - an album about memory, love, place and time. 👁️
By using warm tungsten lighting, relaxed ambience, mirror ball highlights and personal visual content - the production design mirrors the emotional landscape of the music and enhances the audience’s immersion in this 20-year celebration of timeless night-time storytelling.
The video imagery is edited to feel organic and slightly imperfect - lightly flickering flames, soft colour grading and grain - like watching home video on an old projector. These lend a personal, documentary feel that complements the music’s introspection. #maxconwell #nakedeyelighting
